Fantastik Friday

I have a special message to pass on to all of you fabulous ladies from our Enrichment Leader!

Hi sisters,

Fantastic Friday is coming up THIS Friday evening, Nov 20, from 7:00 - 9:00PM

This wonderful event is for ALL sisters (including the Young Women). You do not have to do a craft, cook, bake, or bring money - just enjoy being together!

At 7:00 we will meet in half the gym to share Christmas traditions through a special video presentation Candise has so beautifully prepared. We will learn how to keep "Christ" in Christmas as we anticipate and get excited for the season.

At 8:00 we will have the choice of two classes, or feel free to visit and enjoy refreshments for as long as you like. The two classes you can choose from will be: a picture frame class, or a cooking class. For more details on the picture frame class, you may phone Sis. Beth Kearl. For more details on the cooking class, you may phone Sis. Emily Leavitt.

A special gift will be given to each of you attending to wish you a merry Christmas and to thank you for all your support and love throughout the year.

We love you all so much, and look forward to seeing you all there! Feel free to call me if you have any questions or concerns.

*Everyone is to bring a copy of their favorite Christmas story or quote to give as a gift to another, that we may all share in the Christmas spirit together.

Love Jessica Jahn.

October Book Group

Hi ladies,

Cindy is going to be hosting our Book Group this week (tues Oct 27th) at 7:00.

Her household is still battling some colds so instead Cindy will be hosting the night at the home of Bela Jahn. Bela asked me to let you all know that parking is limited in her complex, but there's plenty across the street in the mall parking lot. If you cross 88th ave from Mac's there is a hidden entrance to my complex and once in, mine is the second unit on the right of the side entrance. I can turn on Christmas lights in the patio that will be visible from 88th ave. It's red and blue lights.

Bring your favourite childhood book or a kids book that you really like and we will have fun time sharing and discussing them!

See you there!

Summer Girl’s Night Out

This summer we are going to be hosting two Girls Night Out events! One will be a movie night and another out to see a play. Both events will be a fabulous time and if going to see a play is not in your family’s budget the good news is the movie night is free! Young Women are also welcome to join us.

Friday July 24th 8:00pm

We are going to meet in Cassandra Wilson's home to watch the movie
“Emma Smith: My Story”

From Emma’s point of view, we see the events that molded the wife of the Prophet Joseph Smith into a strong and compassionate woman. The film begins near the end of Emma's life. Her adopted daughter, Julia Murdock Smith, returns home to Emma and shares several hardships she has had. Emma relates to Julia some of her own life's experiences to give her a different perspective and illustrate the importance of maintaining faith amid such trials. Various turning points in Emma's life are revealed as she recounts experiences ranging from her childhood with a father that was very strict and who forbade praying in the home, to her courtship and marriage to Joseph Smith, and the challenges she faced in being the wife of the Prophet. The film also includes brief insights into her life and character after the martyrdom of Joseph until her own death in Nauvoo in 1879. http://www.emmasmithmovie.com/

We will also be going to watch the Musical “Thoroughly Modern Millie” which is an outdoor play held at the theatre under the stars in Stanley Park, Vancouver http://www.tuts.ca/

Thursday August 20th 8:00pm

Tickets are $34 and can be purchased at http://www.ticketstonight.ca/

We will sit in the general seating area so please let Candise know if you will be attending so she knows how many seats to save

Thoroughly Modern Millie”, is a high-spirited musical romp that has all of New York dancing the Charleston. Starring Richmond’s own Diana Kaarina, Thoroughly Modern Millie tells the story of a small-town girl, Millie Dillmount, who comes to New York City in 1922 at the height of the Wall Street boom. She bobs her hair, assumes the modern look of a "flapper," and is determined to marry for money instead of love – a thoroughly modern aim in 1922 when women were just entering the workforce. The show is filled with great songs, fabulous dance numbers and of course, a great love story.

(the lady at the box office said the play is family approved and if it had a rating, it would be ‘G’ )

'We will be discussing Stewart McLean. He is a Canadian author who usually writes short stories. He has been host of the CBC show Morningside and he is now host of the CBC show Vinyl Cafe. I love his short stories but I especially love to hear him read them. I have posted a link to the Vinyl Cafe web site, so if you’d like to listen to one of his stories, read by him you can choose the format and listen for yourself prior to book group on June 23rd. http://www.cbc.ca/vinylcafe/listen.php?vLocale=podcast Please note that even if you don’t have an iPod you can still listen right from your computer.

He has also compiled his short stories in several books, some of which I have lent out to members of our group (and hope to get back). These are available at chapters or any other book store and all have the Vinyl Cafe in the title.

We have a date for our first 'Learn to Knit' night! Hurray! It's going to be on April 7th at 7:00pm and will be taught by a friend of Renee Mitchells. I wanted to ask if anyone would be willing to invite us all into their home to learn that night, we could find a room at the church to have it but it would be cosier in a home. So I thought I would throw it out there to see if anyone was interested.

You will each need to bring a thick style ball of yarn (not black, too hard to see) and a pair of small needles, either an 8 or 4mm.

Time Out for Women

Have you been having one those days/months where you wish you could just call "Time Out" long enough to regroup, and catch your physical and spiritual breath? Well here is your chance. Time Out for Women is an inspirational event featuring presentations by respected authors and artists who address the spiritual challenges and needs of women in the Church. It's a great opportunity for women to gather and get recharged.

It is coming to Seattle Washington March 13th and 14th and we thought it would be fun for any of those sisters interested in going, to travel down as a group.

There is a cost for the event, it is as follows:

$57 for the event – (and there will be a $10 discount each if we can get a group of 5 people or more)

Hotel room costs are around $70 and that can be split up between however many people want to share a room. We would need people to volunteer to drive and we could leave in the afternoon or leave really early and stop to go to the temple on our way.

Money for the event needs to be in to Candise Wilde by Feb 13th. The price goes up for any registrations after this date plus you will miss out on the group discount, but if do decide late you can go online and register for yourself. Once we have a final number we can figure out the exact costs for the hotel rooms and book those soon after the 13th to ensure we have rooms.

I went a few years ago and it was really an amazing experience. The speakers are all so inspired and the spirit truly attends throughout the whole weekend. It's a great weekend to spend some time just for yourself, to relax and be inspired and have a little fun.
